MANOR VIEW ASSOCIATION MAY MEETING MINUTES

President Kathy Vetter called the meeting to order.

Officers present were:  Bob Duncan, Treasurer, Jocelyn Bronleben, Acting Secretary and Activity Director.   Ed Walther –VP is on vacation.

The meeting began with our Pledge of Allegiance.

The minutes of the last meeting were accepted as printed in the Manor View Chronicle.

Treasurer Bob Duncan presented the monthly report with an ending balance $1,949.50 on 4/30/09.

Our deepest sympathy is once again extended to the Ladin and Carrington families on the loss of their loved ones.

Kathy introduced Troy Wilson, President of the Pro Board, who gave a presentation on water management in the Plantation.

Troy started by explaining that there are two types of water:  surface water and aquifer water.

1.  Surface water is found in the first 200 ft below the ground.  This water contains poisons and is not drinkable.  However, it is okay for watering lawns, etc.

2.  Aquifer water is over 200 ft deep is the precious water which we can drink.

Enough water must be left in the aquifer to prevent salt water from intruding into it.  We have reached the point where we cannot increase the amount of water we are presently pulling out.  In fact, we must start decreasing the amount.

The average amount of water used in Lake County is 13,000 gallons per month per house.  Last year, the Plantation pumped 16,000 gallons per month per house.  We must cut back this year to the 13,000 gallons per month per house.  In the year 2013, we will only be allotted 10,000 gallons per month per house.  He stated that 80% of our monthly usage goes into the ground.

We will go to once a week watering in the fall.  Lake Water Co will PATROL in Plantation looking for violations

Some of the things the community can do or are doing include:

Turning off your sprinkler system when we get rain until needed again.

The Architectural Review Board has approved other grasses and “O” scape.  You can apply to them for any changes that will conserve water.

80% of Common Areas are presently watered with surface water.  They are in the process of drilling two new wells so that 100% of the Common Areas will be watered by surface water and not water from the aquifer.

If adding plants make sure they are drought tolerant.  The University of Florida has a list on its website.

The golf courses are watered with recycled water (which is considered surface water) as is the Saw Grass Lake,   The golf course will have to start paying for some of the water.

Troy was asked about the Niagara Bottling Co.   He said back in 2002 when contracts were signed, the St. Johns River Authority did not foresee the population explosion in Clermont and other communities.   Therefore, the law is on the side of the bottling company.   It is hoped they will not make this mistake in the future.

Troy asked that we think about managing our water.
